[D-2] Let’s Meet the Day of UN!

Today is the Day of UN! Do you know what UN stands for? It stands for United Nations. UN is an international organization founded in 1945 with 4 main purposes: to keep peace through the world; to develop friendly relations among nations; to help nations work together to improve the lives of poor people, to conquer hunger, disease and illiteracy, and to encourage respect to for each other’s rights and freedoms; to be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations to achieve these goals.

UN has seven main bodies which include General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Trusteeship Council, International Court of Justice, Secretariat, and Specialized Agencies, Related Organizations fund and other UN entities. It currently has 193 member states including every internationally recognized sovereign state in the world but Vatican City.

 To celebrate the Day of UN, there were many main VIPs have participated including Ms. Amina Mohamed who is a Deputy Executive Director United Nations Environment Programme as well as Commissioner-General for the United Nations Pavilion.

There were also celebrations performances and videos! There were 5 sessions of celebration performances. The first session started with a video of “Our Oceans and coasts are magnificent”. Followed by the first video, there was Lithuania’s saxophone performance!

The second session had performances of Romania followed by the video “We are connected through the oceans”. At the third session, there was video of “Oceans sustain us”, and performance from Angola. The fourth session had performance of Argentina followed by the video “Our oceans are under threat”. The last session showed the video “Together, we can protect the beauty and bounty of our oceans and coasts”, then the duet performances of Kolleen Park and Jae-lim Choi.
