[July 24] Let’s Meet The World: Tuvalu


Tuvalu is located in Oceania, island group consisting of nine coral atolls in the South Pacific Ocean. It originally was one of the British colonies of the Gilbert and Ellice Island, yet it declared independency in 1978. The climate of Tuvalu is tropical; moderated by easterly trade winds (March to November); westerly gales and heavy rain (November to March).The population is about 10 thousand, and Funafuti which is capital city of Tuvalu comprise about half of population.

Tuvalu is now suffering with rising sea levels resulted from global warming. Due to this situation, Tuvalu made an agreement with New Zealand which Tuvalu people can immigrate easily to New Zealand. Tuvalu’s problem with rising sea level relates to Yeosu Expo’s purpose of keeping clean and sustainable ocean.

So we all should work hard to stop global warming, and have clean water and sustainable ocean! Let’s go Yeosu Expo!

On July 24, Tuvalu celebrated its National Day at Yeosu Expo. The event began with brief greetings and introduction. Then followed by introduction, Tuvalu’s amazing performances took a place. One of the performances included “Patare” song which reflects the patriotism of Tuvalu people.
