Yeosu Expo presents a discussion on sustainable use of ocean for better future.

Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea-OECD International Symposium on the theme of “The Future of the Ocean Economy: A Green Growth Perspective” will be held from July 9th Monday to July 11th Wednesday at International Pavilion Block C Conference Hall.

The Yeosu Expo International Symposium 2012 is in the limelight as global entrepreneurs and researchers will participate in the symposium to offer a blueprint for the future marine environment that they have studied.

On the first day, July 9th Monday, OECD International Symposium will have its opening ceremony. One of the guests invited to speak is Yves Leterme, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD. Kang Dong-suk, the chairman of the Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea will give an opening speech at the International Symposium. The Symposium will provide Global Ocean Leaders Forum themed on Blue Economy. The forum will be attended by word-class experts including John Huckerby and Charlie Than.

           On the second day, July 10th Tuesday, the main events of International Symposium will be presented. The Symposium is also expected to have regular session and special session. Special Session includes presentations and discussions, while regular session will consist of four sessions. Before all the presentations, Barrie Stevens, head of the OECD’s International Futures Programme, will deliver a keynote speech on the “Future of the Oceanic Economy” at the International Symposium’s regular session.

           First session under the theme “Green Growth and the Future of the Traditional Oceanic Economy” will have four presentations at the International Symposium. Some of guests that will give presentations are Thomas Lindy Sorensen, head of Maersk Korea, Carl-Christian Schdmit, head of the OECD Fisheries Division, and Richard Johns, CEO of Seadream Yacht Club Asia.

Second session on theme “Green Growth and the Future of the New Oceanic Economy” will provide four presentations at the International Symposium. John Huckerby, chairman of the IEA OES-IA, will be a presenter, too.

The Symposium attendees will receive third session as well. At the end of the Symposium, there will be press conference during forth session. The result of International Symposium will be announced by Barrie Stevens. An action plan to make achievements of the Symposium to academic legacy of Yeosu Expo will be covered.
