[June 4] Let’s meet the world: Maldives

Maldives officially Republic of Maldives, also referred to as the Maldive Islands, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean formed by a double chain of twenty-six atolls oriented north-south off India’s Lakshadweep Islands, between Minicoy Island and Chagos Archipelago. It stands in the Laccadive Sea, about 700 kilometres (430 mi) south-west of Sri Lanka and 400 kilometres (250 mi) south-west of India.

Maldives is the smallest Asian country in both population and land area. With an average ground level of 1.5 metres (4 ft 11 in) above sea level, it is the planet’s lowest country. It is also the country with the lowest natural highest point in the world, at 2.4 metres (7 ft 10 in)

Today (June 4), Maldives hosts National Day at Yeosu Expo and they are offering various events to celebrate the Day. The attendees are four delegates including Maldives ambassador.

Maldives Pavilion is located between Bangladesh Pavilion and Performance Stage of International Pavilion. Especially, Maldives make this week, from June1 to June 6, a visit week of Maldives during the Expo, and the Maldives will show visitors such as a traditional dancing performance as a part of the diversified programs.

The Maldives Pavilion has been designed to tell visitors about beautiful and fascinating deep sea of Maldives and to give a chance for visitors to meet processed local marine products such as canned tuna at the specialty booth.Visitors can learn the importance of oceans and nature’s wonder at Maldives Pavilion.
