[May 22] Yeosu celebrated the Local Government Day!

Yeosu celebrated its local government day sponsored by The Organizing Committee for Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea at a Tent Theater of Yeosu expo today (May 22).

Yeosu (Yeosu-si) is a city in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. Yeosu is a city of history and loyalty where the headquarters of South Jeolla Province Navy Base was located. And thanks to the sea wind and warm current, Yeosu has cool summers and mild winters. Its ocean climate also brings Yeosu relatively longer springs and autumns than other regions.

Those in attendance at the festival of local government day included Common Councilmen, members of a provincial assembly, chiefs of organizations, heads of the local governments, delegation of international sister cities, members of a local self-government committee and other organizers also attended the event.

To celebrate the day, there were various meaningful and colorful performances with Yeosu City Traditional Music Orchestra. And traditional performance teams from international sister cities such as Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago and Russia were invited to commemorate the occasion.

Yeosu City Traditional Music Orchestra has established in 2000 to satisfy citizen’s cultural desires. The orchestra is composed of 40 members specialized in Korean traditional orchestral music, dance, song, and string. They have been putting enormous efforts in a creative traditional music for the 21st century based on traditional art and actively participating in performing opportunities with dreams in making the future of Korean traditional music. They have enthusiastically held two regular concerts and 80 special concerts to activate local culture and inherit the traditional heritage of Yeosu region properly.

Also, visitors could enjoy its Sister Cities’ cultural performances to celebrate Yeosu. Queretaro Culture Troupe, Mexico performed “Besame Mucho” by Baritone Carlos Sanchez and Pianist Eloisa Sanchez, very popular song for Korean. And the team showed “Danza de los Concheros” by Folkloric Ballet of the Municipality of Queretaro; it’s a representative dance from the central State of Queretaro, known as Aztec Dance.

WoodbrookPlayboyz, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago presented a creative performance. The team, as the Steel-Orchestra, is very well-known for re-interpreting the world’s famous songs with steel pans.

Vanino Culture Troupe, Russia also fascinated the audience with beautiful traditional dances.
