[May 17] OCEANS’12 MTS/IEEE Yeosu: May 21 – 24, 2012

During the Yeosu Expo, to highlight the theme of the Expo, “the Living Ocean and Coast,” lots of events are ready. This is one of those events.

The world’s largest international conference in the field of marine technology and science, OCEANS’12 MTS/IEEE is going to be held in Yeosu for the first time in Korea. OCEANS Conference is organized by MTS (Marine Technology Society) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering for academic exchange, introduction of newest technology, and understanding the research trend/issue. Its history dates back to 1970 when the first OCEANS Conference was held in Panama City.

During this conference, around 300 papers will be presented through a total of 72 sessions including climate change/bio-diversity, Tsunami, marine renewable energy, coastal/ocean engineering, etc. Around 500 marine technology/science specialists from 35 countries will visit Yeosu Expo to participate in the world’s largest conference.

The keynote address by Hitoshi Hotta who is a secretary general of the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) shall deliver a message of “marine technology for the sustainable use of our ocean.”

In relation to this international conference, Korea anticipates that they could introduce Korean status regarding marine technology to the world as well as make further improvement in marine technology.
