A traditional Korean martial art
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and the national sport of South Korea.
Let’s learn about Taekwondo.
Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial art form with a history that goes back thousands of years. Taekwondo is an empty-hand form of exercise that is both physical and mental and entails the use of the hands, the feet, and the entire body. It enables to defend himself against attacks on his body and, through the spiritual aspects of the training, to build moral character. Taekwondo is popular with people of both genders and of many ages. Taekwondo became an official Olympic sport at the Sydney Olympics 2000 and has been picked for inclusion as an official 2012 Olympic event.
Meaning of Taekwondo
Tae means “to strike or break with foot”; kwon means “to strike or break with fist”; and do means “way”, “method”, or “art”. Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as “the way of the hand and the foot” or “the art of kicking and punching.” A taekwondo student typically wears a white uniform with a belt tied around the waist. The belt color indicates grade. In general, the darker color belt represents the higher grade.
Learn Korean commands
In taekwondo, Korean language commands are often used.
|Shwi-uh||쉬어||At ease (relax)|
|Hyoo-shik||휴식||Rest period (break)|
|Dwiro-dora||뒤로 돌아||Turn around (180 degrees)|
